Enugu (Nigeria): The Enugu State Police Command has intensified the chase for the killers of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.

Eya was shot dead at night on Sept. 19, on the Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area.

A statement issued on Sunday in Enugu by SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said that the Commissioner, Mr Mamman Giwa, has ordered that the killers of the priest must be traced and brought to book.

Ndukwe said that the CP ordered the Area Commander, Udenu Area Command and heads of Tactical and Operational Units in the command to fish out the killers.

Ndukwe said that subsequently, police operatives under the Udenu Area Command’s coverage had detained 38 suspects, following bush combing and raids of different black spots in the area.

“Incriminating exhibits were recovered, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening.

“The commissioner has commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the Catholic Church.

“He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bringing them to justice,” Ndukwe said.
