Insecurity Forces Tinubu to Delay G20, AU–EU Summit Trips

‎Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned attendance at the G20 and AU–EU summits, citing worsening insecurity in Nigeria as the reason for rescheduling the high‑profile engagements.

The presidency stressed that safeguarding lives at home must take precedence over international travel.

‎In a statement by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, Tinubu also ordered an additional security deployment to the Eruku and Ekiti local government areas of Kwara State.

‎He directed the police to pursue the bandits who attacked worshippers at the  Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku.

It can be recalled that the President was scheduled to depart Abuja on Wednesday for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg,  and later the AU-EU Summit in Luanda.

‎However, Onanuga said Tinubu postponed his departure due to security breaches in Kebbi and the fatal attack in Kwara.

‎The President also awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, and from security agencies investigating the attack in Kwara.

‎Tinubu reiterated his directive to security agencies to secure the release of the 25 abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return home.
