Katsina: Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State on Wednesday signed the N897.8 billion 2026 appropriation bill of the state into law.
The bill, signed at the Katsina Government House, is tagged ‘Building Your Future 3.’
The governor commended the state House of Assembly for passing the budget within 21 working days.
Radda said that the budget with 18 per cent recurrent and 81 per cent capital expenditure was a legacy of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
He said that the current budget, with a lower percentage of recurrent expenditure, aligned with the legacy of the late president, who was also a former governor of the state.
The governor thanked the assembly members for their sacrifices, including holidays and sleepless nights, in passing the budget, as well as the number of bills passed in recent years.
Raddah emphasised the importance of a good working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government and called for continued cooperation.
Earlier, the Speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Nasir Yahya-Daura, said the budget was the outcome of an intensive and illustrative process, with extensive study and questioning to ensure the needs of the people are met for the progress of the state.
He recalled that the budget submitted by the executive was identical to the approved version, prompting the assembly to maintain the proposed amount.
“After careful review, the house agreed that the proposal is sound and aligned with the development plan of the administration,” he said.
The Speaker asked for divine assistance in successfully implementing the budget and overcoming security challenges.
