Ibadan: Prince Dotun Oyelade, Oyo State Commissioner for Information, has congratulated Mr Akeem Abas on his election as chairman of the NUJ Oyo State Council
Oyelade, in a statement issued in Ibadan, also congratulated other members who emerged victorious in the union’s election on Tuesday.
He described the election exercise as a proud moment for the Oyo NUJ, while commending the electoral committee for conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
He noted that the transparency of the process had strengthened the union’s democratic values and set a new standard for other councils across the country.
According to him, the exercise has also fostered professionalism.
The commissioner, who was the union’s vice chairman 40 years ago, expressed the state government’s excitement at the seamless NUJ election.
He equally commended the immediate past chairman, Ademola Babalola, and his executive members for ensuring a smooth and exemplary transition.
Oyelade charged the new chairman and his team to channel all efforts toward promoting good governance within the union and contributing to the progress of Oyo NUJ, the state and Nigeria in general.
He also commended other contestants for accepting the election’s outcome peacefully, describing them as true democrats whose maturity preserved the integrity of the process.
Abas, an editor in NAN, won the election, held at the NUJ Secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan, with 143 votes.
The two other contestants, Raji Adebayo of the Daily Independent and Sola Oladapo of the Federal Ministry of Information, garnered 118 and 59 votes, respectively.
