Shock Move: Rivers Gov Fubara Defects to APC Amid PDP Turmoil

Port Harcourt: Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has jolted Nigeria’s political landscape, announcing his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a move that signals a seismic shift in Rivers politics and deepens the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fubara, who was elected governor under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), announced the decision at a stakeholders’ meeting in Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

TheDiggerNews recalls that no fewer than 15 members of the state House of Assembly recently defected to the ruling party.

The lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, ascribed their defection to divisions within the PDP.

Reacting to the defection, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, attributed the development to

the deepening internal crisis in the PDP.”

“The defections reflect the level of factionalisation in the party. Those who defected are free; it is within their rights to do so.

“Although the lawmakers did not inform me before their decision, they acted within their constitutional rights, ”he said.
