Ilorin: The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has paid tribute to the late former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, describing him as an incorruptible jurist
This is contained in a condolence message issued in Ilorin on Tuesday by the Emir’s Press Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona.
Sulu-Gambari said the deceased served the nation diligently before his voluntary resignation as the 18th CJN and retirement from the judicial service.
“The late Justice Tanko worked with me at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, before my enthronement as the 11th Emir of Ilorin in 1995.
“I had since then held him in very high esteem, due to his commitment to work and love for our dear nation,” Sulu-Gambari said.
The emir noted that the deceased was a dedicated jurist who did his best to remain upright in his work and served as a mentor to many young lawyers and judges.
“I honour his tireless dedication to the rule of law and the improvement of the Nigerian judiciary, values for which he will always be remembered.
“His professional achievements and unwavering commitment to justice have had a lasting impact on Nigeria’s legal system,” he said.
He, thereby, expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family members, government, and people of Bauchi State, the Nigerian Judicial Council, and the Federal Government.
Sulu-Gambari prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and admit him into Al-janatul firdaus.
The former CJN died on Tuesday at the age of 71; he would have been 72 come Dec. 31.
The jurist was appointed acting CJN on Jan. 25, 2019, and sworn in as the substantive 18th CJN on July 24, 2019, by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He, however, resigned on June 26, 2022, citing ill health.
