Awka: Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Monday signed into law the ₦766 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill, alongside three other key legislations, describing the measures as “critical to accelerating Anambra’s development agenda.”
The signing ceremony, held at the Light House in Awka, marked a significant milestone in the state’s fiscal planning. The budget, initially proposed at ₦757 billion, was increased to ₦766 billion after deliberations and adjustments by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Soludo emphasized that the Appropriation Law is more than a financial document, calling it a strategic plan to drive economic growth, fast‑track infrastructure development, and strengthen social welfare programmes.
“This budget is more than numbers; it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises. We focused on what truly matters to the people and ensured that resources are directed to critical areas,” he said.
He commended lawmakers for their “wisdom” in slightly increasing the budget size, stressing that the adjustment reflects a shared commitment to meeting the needs of Anambra citizens.
In addition to the Appropriation Bill, Soludo assented to three other bills, including the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025
According to the governor, these laws underscore his administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, creating an enabling environment for sustainable growth.
Soludo praised the House of Assembly for its cooperation and diligence, noting that the productive partnership between the executive and legislature has been crucial in delivering laws that will accelerate Anambra’s prosperity.
