Awka, Anambra State (Nigeria): The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called on Nigerian youths to embrace a drug-free lifestyle, warning that rejecting drug abuse and trafficking is essential to building a healthier, safer, and more prosperous society.
Mr Charles Onubogu, the Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), gave the advice during an advocacy campaign for youths in Awka on Saturday.
Onubogu said drugs lack any appeal that cannot be resisted. He called them a killer pill and urged rejection.
He urged youth, faith-based leaders, parents, and civil society groups to engage youths regularly on drug dangers.
He described the rising drug use among youths as worrisome. He asked for immediate, decisive sensitisation.
“There is no more time to waste, the youths are using their whole life to embrace hard drugs.
“I call on parents, guardians, and well-meaning members of the public to take the fight against intake of hard drugs by the youths seriously.
“As you engage in evangelism to win souls for God, please win souls for the nation.
“Parents should spend quality time with their children, relax, and interact deeply. This can help spot any trait linked to drugs,” he said.
Onubogu said NDLEA in Anambra focuses on helping people escape drug abuse and develop a dislike for drugs.
He called on the public to view the fight against drug abuse as a social responsibility. A society with drug addicts is not habitable, he added.
The NDLEA commander said the command aims to end the menace. He stressed that people’s action, with timely, clear information, is needed.
“The fight will only improve if people work with NDLEA,” he said.
Onubogu, therefore, urged members of the public to always reach out to the agency at 09136832679.
