by Kehinde Adegoke

Osogbo: Five National Assembly members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major shift in Osun’s political landscape.

The defectors are Sen. Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Sen. Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Omirin Olusanya (Ijesa South Federal Constituency), Wole Oke (Ijesa North Federal Constituency), and Taofeek Ajilesoro (Ife Central Federal Constituency).

They were received by party officials, members and supporters in Osogbo.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, welcomed the defectors and said their arrival would strengthen the APC’s resolve to reclaim Osun and restore dignity to governance, emphasising the party’s unity.

“We are gathered not just to receive our new members, but to affirm that the sure path to prosperity and visionary leadership lies in the All Progressives Congress.

“In APC, we are one family. Your arrival strengthens our resolve to reclaim Osun and restore good governance,” he said.

Oyetola also stated that the achievements of President Bola Tinubu since assuming office had established a foundation for changes in Nigeria.

“We endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 to secure lasting prosperity,” he said.

Oyetola urged party members to work for the APC’s victory in the Aug. 8 governorship election.

“At home, the 2026 governorship election is fast approaching. Our mission is clear: we aim to reclaim Osun, prioritise people-focused governance, improve public services, empower the youth, and ensure government accountability for all Osun residents.

“We aim for effective schools, hospitals, infrastructure, empowered youth and businesses, and transparent governance.

“But victory will come only through unity, hard work, and grassroots mobilisation. So return to your communities, wards, and polling units and tell our people that the light of progress has returned to Osun.

“Tell our people the APC is united and determined. Progress has returned to Osun.

“Together, we will reclaim Osun on Aug. 8, re-elect President Tinubu in 2027, and secure a brighter future for our children,” he said.

The APC Chairman in Osun, Tajudeen Lawal, said the PDP members’ defection would strengthen the party and support success in both the Aug. 8 governorship election and President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Lawal also said there would be no discrimination in access to political opportunities, regardless of when one joined the party, in line with the APC’s tradition.

Similarly, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, urged party members to unite ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections.

“As we approach the 2026 and 2027 elections, unity is essential,” he said.

“The progressive family in Osun must stand as one. Our shared goal is to drive growth, promote accountability, advocate for inclusive development, and position Osun as a model of APC-led good governance.

“Today’s decision strengthens our momentum and signals a bright, decisive future,” he said.
