Abuja: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set a target of N23.8 billion in Internally Generated Revenue for the 2026 fiscal year.

On Wednesday in Abuja, Dr Muftau Bello, a Director in the Registrar’s office, revealed this during the defence of JAMB’s 2026 budget estimate.

Appearing before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, JAMB officials presented the organisation’s proposals for the coming year.

Out of the projected N23.8 billion, N6 billion, Bello said, would be remitted to the Federation Account.

He provided further details, stating, “A total of N30.6 billion is proposed as JAMB’s 2026 budget, which will be funded primarily by N23.8 billion in internally generated revenue. From this amount, N6 billion is expected to be remitted as the operating surplus to the Federation Account.”

He further stated that JAMB generated N18.5 billion as IGR in 2025 and remitted N4 billion to the Federation Account.

Bello highlighted preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, stating, “We have set up 1,000 Computer-Based Test centres nationwide to ensure access for all candidates.”

He explained that the new centres were in addition to the 800 created in 2025.

Sen. Amos Yohanna Amos urged, “Consider the financial struggles of rural families when setting registration fees.”

He noted that raising funds for registration is a struggle for many children in rural communities, often limiting their academic ambitions.

Bello responded, “Under our current leadership, we reduced the fee from N5,000 to N3,500 to ease the burden on students.”

Impressed by the board’s performance, committee members commended JAMB for what they described as effective stewardship of its mandate.
