Abuja: The Presidency on Thursday advised opposition parties to avoid what it described as disinformation regarding the amended Electoral Act and the APC-led Federal Government.
Presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement that opposition parties should stop constant lamentation and unwarranted outrage against the Electoral Act and the APC government.
Onanuga noted that some opposition figures made allegations against President Tinubu and the APC-led Federal Government.
He described the claims as inaccurate and stated they could discredit the National Assembly and the administration.
According to him, the amended law provides for real-time transmission of results, with Form EC8A—the official result sheet used at polling units—serving as a backup in the event of network failure.
He stated that the 2026 Electoral Act allows real-time result transmission, with Form EC8A valid if transmission fails.
He added that the IReV portal, which stands for Independent National Electoral Commission Result Viewing Portal, was not a collation centre but a platform for consensus-based selection of party candidates. The presidency supported direct primaries and consensus options for party candidate selection.
He said removing delegate-based primaries would strengthen internal democracy. He said claims that the National Assembly ignored Nigerians’ wishes are false. He stated the National Assembly consulted stakeholders and experts for two years before amending the law. The rejected accusations that the administration seeks a one-party state. Onanuga stated Nigeria remains a multi-party democracy with many registered parties. than a dozen registered parties,” Onanuga said.
He urged opposition parties to stop constant lambasting. He emphasised that the amended Act strengthens the electoral system and addresses previous loopholes. He also emphasised that the repealed legislation left loopholes that the amended Act closes.
