Abuja: Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Togolese woman at the Seme border. The arrest took place in the Badagry Area of Lagos. She is alleged to have been trafficking drugs.
A statement by the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja, said the NDLEA officers at the departure tarmac intercepted the suspect on Friday.
Babafemi said that the suspect had concealed 5,000 pills of Tramadol in her luggage.
A total of 1,040 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, was recovered from an uncompleted building on Wednesday. The building is at Akodo village, Seaside Eleko, along the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.
A suspect was arrested with 1,499 bottles of Codeine syrup at Lambu, Tofa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State on Wednesday. He was conveying the consignment in his Volkswagen Golf car, marked CA 911 ABC.
“Another suspect was nabbed on Friday while transporting 87.4 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, KUJ 544 RL, along Zaria- Dutsinma road, Katsina,” he said.
In related development, Babafemi said two suspects in Osun, Adewale Fatunmise, 40, and Adebisi Korede, 25, were arrested by operatives of the NDLEA on Monday, Feb. 23, in connection with the seizure of 18.085kg of skunk at the Aregbe area of Osogbo.
According to him, at least 637,600 pills of opioids were recovered by NDLEA operatives. The haul included tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5, and was made while acting on credible intelligence.
Babafemi said the operatives had on Thursday, Feb. 26, intercepted a Mercedes-Benz vehicle marked KWL-607DC along the Bali – Suntai road while conveying the consignment to Baruwa in Gashaka LGA, Taraba.
“Furthermore, “A similar interdiction operation at Lankaviri area of the state led to the arrest of a suspected drug peddler and the seizure of 126.022kg skunk,” he said. In another development, 499.2kg of skunk was recovered at Dei -Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
A suspect was intercepted in a commercial vehicle on Tuesday, Feb. 24, along the Bama-Konduga road in Borno. The vehicle was conveying 7,000 capsules of tramadol.
Meanwhile, he added, the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities continued across the agency’s Commands and formations nationwide in the past week.
He listed some of them, including the WADA sensitisation lecture to students and staff of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Tungan Magajiya, in Niger, and Federal Government College, Odo Oru, Ogbomoso, in Oyo.
Others were Government Day Senior Secondary School, Fagam, Jigawa and Government Science College Esuk Ekpoeyo, in Cross River, among others.
