Naira Extends Two‑Week Slide at Official Market

Lagos: The Naira further depreciated on Friday at the official market, trading at N1,393.25 against the U.S. dollar. This extended decline comes amid ongoing volatility in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

According to data released on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) website, the Naira lost N5.80.

This amounted to a 0.4 per cent loss compared to Thursday, when the local currency traded at N1,387.44 to the dollar, continuing the recent downward trend.

The Naira, which has experienced weeklong depreciation, also suffered a free fall the previous week.

For instance, on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Naira traded at N1,378.02 per dollar, setting the stage for further declines.

On Tuesday, the currency traded at N1,384.29, and on Wednesday  it moved further to N1,387.09, highlighting its ongoing instability.
