2027: Ex-Governors Unite to Deliver Abia to APC

Umuahia: Former Abia governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu have inaugurated a technical committee of ex-legislators and government appointees to drive the APC’s 2027 election campaign in the state.

The committee, comprising former legislators and administration appointees, was inaugurated in Umuahia on Saturday.

Kalu, the Senator for Abia North, spoke at the inauguration on behalf of the ex-governors. He explained that the party constituted the committee in January and tasked it with creating a blueprint for the party and the state.

He announced that preparations were underway. The committee and the former governors will soon convene a strategic meeting to finalise plans for the upcoming elections.

Describing its purpose, he said, “It’s a technical committee working on modalities for setting up larger groups that will drive our party’s victory.”

“We are showing people our commitment for our party to win from the President to the House of Assembly,” Kalu said.

Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dr ACB Agbazuere, former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu, chairs the committee.

NAN notes that the committee includes everyone who served under previous administrations from 1999 to 2023.

Meanwhile, Kalu’s younger brother, Mascot Kalu, affirmed his readiness to contest the 2027 governorship poll under the APC.

In a speech at the event, he urged the committee to demonstrate sufficient commitment to the party’s success in 2027.

He promised to develop the state’s human and material resources if given the opportunity to serve.
