Abuja: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clinched the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket for the 2027 election, scoring a landslide in the party’s nationwide primary.
Results announced Wednesday night showed Atiku polling 1,855,787 votes, dwarfing Rotimi Amaechi’s 509,397 and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen’s 180,903.
The ADC confirmed total votes cast at 2,546,457, with Atiku’s margin over Amaechi standing at 1.34 million.
Attempts at consensus collapsed, forcing a direct primary across all 36 states and the FCT. Party leaders cited compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 as the reason for opting for the method.
Atiku’s emphatic win now sets the stage for a fierce 2027 presidential showdown.
