Kano: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested four suspected phone snatchers during a raid at Dorayi Babba in Kano’s Gwale Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Kano.

He said the suspects, whose ages ranged between 17 and 27, all reside at Dorayi Babba and were apprehended in connection with public disturbance, attacks and snatching handsets.

“The suspects were arrested after a good Samaritan gave a report to the NSCDC outpost in the area,” he said.

According to him, an informant alerted operatives that dozens of hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, had gathered near a community school in Dorayi Babba. These individuals attacked worshippers observing Taraweeh prayers as well as passers-by.

Before they were apprehended, the hoodlums deprived residents of their belongings, including mobile phones.

“During the operation, four suspects were arrested after attacking an individual and snatching his phone,” he said.

Idris-Abdullahi said that a sharp knife and two parcels of marijuana were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

He said the investigation into the case had been concluded and the suspects would be charged in court.

The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
