Abuja: The European Union (EU) has pledged to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria across security, trade, and key economic sectors amid rising global uncertainty.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs Kaja Kallas, made the pledge during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence. She said discussions focused on expanding collaboration in security, investment, and critical raw materials.
“The EU and Nigeria are like-minded partners, and today we explored new ways to collaborate,” Kallas said. She stressed that the evolving global geopolitical environment required countries committed to a rules-based international system to deepen cooperation.
Kallas highlighted opportunities in cybersecurity and broader security ties against emerging threats, as well as prospects for increased trade and investment to support sustainable growth.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to stronger EU relations, expressing appreciation for the bloc’s continued support in development, security, and economic cooperation. He said Nigeria welcomed partnerships that promote shared prosperity, stability, and sustainability.
National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Budget and National Planning Abubakar Bagudu also attended the meeting.
