Abuja: The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a nationwide strike beginning Tuesday, April 7, following unresolved issues over the Professional Allowance Table and outstanding arrears.
Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim, Secretary General of NARD, said in a statement that the decision was reached after extensive consultations and an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting.
He noted that the strike would involve members across federal, state, and private institutions, though the association remains open to dialogue with the government.
NARD stressed that reinstating the Professional Allowance Table is vital to improving welfare and retaining skilled medical professionals.
The association also demanded the prompt payment of promotion and salary arrears, the release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, and the settlement of outstanding allowances.
NARD said the strike reflects doctors’ commitment to fairness and improved working conditions, while expressing hope that ongoing talks will bring solutions.
The association urged all stakeholders, including government officials and healthcare advocates, to engage promptly and constructively to help resolve the dispute and restore effective health services nationwide.
