Abeokuta (Nigeria): The Ogun chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted Sen. Solomon Adeola as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, was adopted on Monday at a state strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.

The meeting was presided over by the state APC Chairman, Mr Yemi Sanusi, and attended by Gov. Dapo Abiodun.

Abiodun announced the decision and urged other aspirants to support Adeola for party unity.

He emphasised the need to put the party’s interest before personal ambitions ahead of the 2027 election.

Abiodun declared, “It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of all of you, to congratulate Sen. Adeola as our consensus and unanimously selected governorship candidate for 2027.”

The governor said the decision demonstrated “a high level of political magnanimity” among all parties.

I am so overjoyed about the maturity shown at this meeting. The level of political magnanimity displayed by everyone is impressive.

“That spirit of no victor, no vanquish, because we know that for every time somebody wins, others have lost.

“So let us as we celebrate, bearing that in mind that there should be no victor, no vanquish,” he said.

Adeola thanked party leaders and members for their confidence in him.

He promised not to disappoint the party and assured stakeholders of his commitment to maintaining unity, peace, and progress in the state.

Adeola also pledged to build on the party’s achievements and work for Ogun’s further development.

“Now are all the sacrifices that my brothers have put together to ensure this day comes to pass. I believe in oneness and the unity of our dear state and Ogun West by extension.

“Your excellency, my dear leaders that are here; I want to assure you, sir, I will not let you down; I promise to keep the flag flying, to retain and maintain the unity, peace and progress that has taken place in the state,” he said.

Sanusi convened the meeting to preserve party unity before, during, and after the primaries.

He emphasised that a rancour-free process and inclusive stakeholder engagement prevent party division ahead of the election.

The former governors, including Chief Olusegun Osoba, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel, attended the meeting.
