Lagos: The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have activated cybersecurity measures. This follows concerns about aspects of CAC’s digital systems.

Mrs Hadiza Umar, Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations Department, announced this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

Umar said the measures follow national cybersecurity frameworks. They aim to protect critical infrastructure and ensure the integrity of government digital services.

She reminded all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to take proactive cybersecurity steps. These steps must comply with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021.

Umar stated that MDAs must quickly review and improve their cybersecurity. The goal is to address new threats targeting government systems and sensitive data.

According to her, MDAs are required to conduct comprehensive security assessments, identify and remediate vulnerabilities, and strengthen access controls across critical platforms.

She added that institutions must boost data protection and ensure backup and disaster recovery. They should also improve monitoring to spot and respond to suspicious activities.

The spokesperson stressed the need for strong incident response plans. These include prompt breach reporting for coordinated action.

Umar noted that MDAs already have detailed cybersecurity guidelines. This is part of ongoing work to strengthen resilience in public digital infrastructure.

The director said these measures aim to boost government security. They also protect national digital assets.

She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting MDAs in safeguarding digital systems and advancing cybersecurity best practices across the public sector.
