Kano Launches Health Screening for 3,000 Couples Ahead of Landmark Mass Wedding

The Kano State Hisbah Board is making medical screening mandatory for 3,000 couples before a state-sponsored mass wedding.

Deputy Commander-General Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen explained that 1,500 men and 1,500 women will be tested for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype compatibility, and drug use.

This helps couples understand their health before getting married.

Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration created this program to help vulnerable groups like widows, divorcees, and spinsters. Besides medical checks, the government is offering dowry payments, household items, and financial support.

Each bride will get a bed set with mattresses and pillows, ₦100,000 in cash for starting a business, and a ₦100,000 dowry from the government.

Aminudeen said couples must take part in the medical screening or they will be disqualified. The mass wedding program, started by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, aims to reduce hardship, discourage what are seen as immoral behaviors, and support stability in less-privileged communities in Kano.

This new edition highlights the government’s commitment to public health and social welfare. The mass wedding is shown as both a cultural event and a way to help families in Kano State become healthier and stronger.
