₦200m in Flight Sales, 200+ Foreign Fans Arrive

The Carter Efe vs Portable clash was not only a celebrity event—it represented a billion‑naira economic occurrence with effects beyond the ring.

With a budget of ₦1.3 billion, the fight night attracted international attention, created jobs, and contributed to Nigeria’s entertainment economy.

Fight promoter Ezekiel Adamu, speaking after the bout, revealed the scale of its impact.

He noted that the event generated over 500 jobs, both directly and indirectly, while attracting more than 200 international visitors to Lagos.

Airlines and hotels reported benefits, including ₦200 million in flight ticket sales and increased accommodation bookings during the event period.

The fight also included 20 international fighters from the UK, Spain, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, and Congo, reflecting Nigeria’s position as a developing boxing hub.

A notable aspect was the event’s international audience. Adamu reported that the fight reached an estimated 1 billion views worldwide across streaming sites and social media, placing it among the more widely viewed sporting events recently.

Advertising and streaming revenues increased, and government tax receipts are expected to be significant once finalised.

Despite positive outcomes, Adamu noted that infrastructural challenges continue to affect the sport’s development.

The Onikan Stadium, a potential venue for the fight, was unavailable due to a political booking, requiring organisers to consider alternative locations.

He stated that with increased government support and investment in facilities, boxing has the potential to develop into a multi‑billion‑naira industry and contribute to economic growth.

The Carter Efe vs Portable event was presented as entertainment, but its broader effects suggested that boxing, with sufficient support, could have broader economic implications for Nigeria.
