Katsina Takes ₦3.8bn Loan to Secure 3,890 Hajj Slots

Katsina: The Katsina State Government has approved a hefty ₦3.8 billion loan to secure 3,890 pilgrimage slots for its citizens in the 2026 Hajj to Saudi Arabia, underscoring the scale of its commitment to the annual religious exercise.

Gov. Dikko Radda disclosed this on Sunday in Katsina during the official farewell ceremony for the state’s intending pilgrims departing for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He said the intervention became necessary after the state initially faced financial challenges in meeting its allocated Hajj slots through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

“The state initially struggled to meet its Hajj slot allocation.

“We approved the ₦3.8 billion loan, which secured 3,890 slots for this year’s Hajj,” he said.

Radda urged pilgrims to pray for lasting peace, unity, and improved security in Katsina state and Nigeria while in the Holy Land.

He also announced that the state government would sponsor Hadaya for all intending pilgrims to enhance their welfare during the pilgrimage.

Each pilgrim will receive a $500 allowance for basic needs in Saudi Arabia.

“200 officials will provide guidance, medical, and logistical support throughout Hajj.

All officials were carefully selected and equipped to support pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage.

Radda added that his administration had strengthened the State Pilgrims Welfare Board’s capacity to improve efficiency and address past challenges.

Deliberate steps have been taken to improve the board’s structure and efficiency.

“I have directed the Amirul Hajj, whose role is to lead and coordinate the pilgrimage, and all relevant authorities, including supervising committees, to ensure strict supervision, accountability, and discipline among officials,” he said.

He urged pilgrims to be exemplary ambassadors, reminding them of the sacrifices their families had made.

Many sold personal belongings to perform Hajj, so you are expected to demonstrate discipline, patience, and mutual respect.

Radda also cautioned against spreading misinformation and urged responsible communication.

He said his administration had improved accommodation and feeding arrangements in the Holy Land.

Since assuming office, better accommodation and quality feeding have been ensured for pilgrims.

“I personally inspected these facilities during previous Hajj operations, and I was satisfied with the progress made,” he said.
