NiMet Forecasts 3-Day Rainy, Sunshine Nationwide

Abuja: The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a nationwide weather outlook for alternating rain and sunny skies from Monday through Wednesday.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja forecast sunny skies over the northern region on Monday, with a few patches of clouds anticipated across the entire region.

The agency envisaged isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rains expected over parts of Taraba state during the afternoon or evening hours.

For the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated throughout the forecast period.

“For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over the region with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are likely in Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states, according to NiMet.

NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds over the entire northern region on Tuesday, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rains expected over parts of Taraba state later in the day.

According to Nimet, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the central region throughout the forecast period.

It forecast prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta States.

On Wednesday, sunny skies with some clouds will persist over the north, with similar patterns of cloudy weather and intervals of sunshine in the central and southern regions. Moderate rains and thunderstorms remain likely in the specified southern areas.

According to the agency, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the North Central region throughout the forecast period.

It forecast a cloudy atmosphere in the southern region, with intervals of sunshine, and prospects of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States later in the day.

“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The public should take adequate precautions and ensure that loose objects are secured to prevent collisions.

Driving in heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.

NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for operational planning.

According to NiMet, temperatures are expected to remain high, causing thermal discomfort. The public is advised to wear breathable clothing, stay in a well-ventilated environment, and stay hydrated.
