Osun Police Slam Fake Bandit Alerts, Call for Calm, Vigilance

The Osun State Police Command is worried about reports of alleged banditry in some areas of the state.

In a statement from Osogbo, the Command said these reports on social media and other platforms are unconfirmed and could make residents uneasy.

The Command explained that current security checks and intelligence do not support these claims.

Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Gotan urged people not to share unverified security alerts, warning that doing so could reduce public trust and disturb community peace.

The police said that sharing unverified information that might cause worry or unrest could lead to an investigation under the law.

They encouraged people to check security news with official sources before sharing, to help prevent misinformation.

The Command reassured residents that it is committed to keeping the community safe.

People are urged to stay calm, stay alert, and go about their daily lives as usual. Security agencies remain watchful, with special teams working across the state to help keep everyone safe.

People are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or security concerns to the nearest police station or security agency so action can be taken quickly.

The warning highlights the risks of spreading false information during security concerns and reminds everyone to trust official police updates instead of unverified social media posts.
