In a proactive move to combat drug-related crimes, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, orchestrated a targeted operation that resulted in the apprehension of 73 suspects and the confiscation of various illicit substances across the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, shared details of the operation, which took place on June 10 as part of the ongoing initiative known as “Operation Sharar Mafaka.”
State Commander Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal spearheaded the operation, aiming to root out notorious drug hotspots and disrupt the illicit drug trade in the region.
During the operation, key locations such as the Filin Mahaha drug den, the Sani Abacha Youth Centre, and spots in the Sheka area were targeted based on credible intelligence regarding criminal activities and drug abuse patterns prevalent in these areas.
The Command successfully seized a range of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, diazepam, pregabalin, Exol-5, and a locally known substance called “suck and die,” along with paraphernalia associated with drug distribution and consumption.
Commander Yahaya-Lawal emphasized the strategic approach adopted by the agency, underscoring their commitment to disrupting criminal activities and dismantling safe havens for drug traffickers through the “dislodge-and-occupy” tactic.
He reiterated the NDLEA’s dedication to combating drug trafficking and abuse in alignment with the directives of the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
Yahaya-Lawal expressed the agency’s resolve to continue dismantling drug joints until illicit drug activities find no refuge in the state, emphasising the importance of safeguarding communities and dismantling networks that perpetuate substance abuse and criminal behaviours.
He called upon the public to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement agencies in the collective effort to combat drug abuse and trafficking, underscoring the significance of community involvement in creating a safer and drug-free environment for all.
