Urgent Recall: Blood Pressure Tablets Could Have Incorrect Pills

If you live in the UK, check your blood pressure medicine right away. Regulators have warned that some packs might have the wrong tablets inside.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) says that some 5mg ramipril packs from Crescent Pharma Limited, batch number GR164099, might have amlodipine tablets instead of ramipril.

Both medicines treat high blood pressure, but they work differently. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels by blocking a hormone. 

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that stops calcium from entering vessel walls. Taking the wrong medicine could make your blood pressure drop too low, which can cause lightheadedness and other side effects.

The MHRA says the mistake likely happened during packaging at the factory. Patients should check the blister strips inside their pack. 

If the strips are labelled ‘amlodipine’, return the medicine to a pharmacy right away. Ramipril tablets with the correct label are not affected.

If you have one of these packs and think you took amlodipine by mistake or feel any side effects, get medical help immediately. 

Bring your leaflet and any leftover tablets to your pharmacy or GP as soon as possible.

Pharmacies and healthcare workers have been told to remove the affected batch from shelves and stock. 

They should check their supplies, set aside any affected packs, and let the MHRA know. 

Any possible side effects should be reported through the MHRA’s Yellow Card scheme. Ramipril is one of the most commonly prescribed medicines in the UK, with over 35 million prescriptions given between 2024 and 2025. 

This recall shows how important careful packaging is, especially for daily medicines that help prevent heart attacks and strokes.
