The Jigawa State Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, recovering stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and livestock, along with thousands of illicit drugs, during a series of coordinated operations across the state.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the successes were achieved through intelligence gathering, community support, and proactive policing.
On May 15, two suspects — Isiyaku Isah, 26, and Musa Yakubu, 25 — were arrested in Birnin Kudu with a stolen motorcycle traced to Bauchi State. Investigators said the suspects confessed to the theft, and efforts are underway to return the motorcycle to its rightful owner.
In Malam Madori on May 19, officers working with local vigilantes recovered two motorcycles, one cow, and three sheep after suspected thieves abandoned the items and fled into nearby bushes. That same day, police arrested Emos Monday from Karshi, Abuja, for allegedly diverting a company vehicle during an official trip to Kano. The stolen Toyota Hiace bus was tracked and recovered.
Further arrests followed: Umar Garba and Abubakar Adam were detained on May 21 for motorcycle theft, with police discovering they had repainted the bike to conceal its identity. On May 20, five suspects were intercepted along the Kano–Maiduguri Road in Kiyawa with a vehicle carrying four stolen cows. In another case, Nabagara Bura and Sale Adamu were arrested on May 22 for cattle rustling in Auyo Local Government Area.
The command also raided criminal hideouts, seizing 5,886 assorted illicit drugs and ₦28,750, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Several suspected dealers were taken into custody.
Commending officers and vigilante groups for their efforts, Commissioner of Police Haruna A. Yahaya reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. “The Command reiterates its commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and urges residents to continue providing timely and credible information,” he said, adding that all suspects will face prosecution once investigations are complete.
