Makurdi: Gov. Hyacinth Alia has congratulated Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda on his emergence as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alia’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by Tersoo Kula, his Chief Press Secretary, and made available to reporters on Thursday in Makurdi.
Yilwatda was unanimously elected by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to replace Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned in June over personal and health reasons.
Before his election, Yilwatda was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
The governor described Yilwatda as a distinguished academic, visionary leader, and politician who he believed could succeed in his new role.
He said the new chairman would surely take the party to enviable heights.
“His intellect, brilliance, expertise, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence are some of his qualities that will draw more admiration and attract more support and love for the ruling APC across the country,” he said.
He wished the former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner in Benue and APC candidate for the 2023 Plateau governorship election the best as he steers the party’s affairs.
