Kaduna: A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered Kabiru Sani, 25, to sweep the court premises for five weeks for stealing two ceiling fans worth N149,800.

Sani, a resident of Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna, pleaded guilty to theft and was convicted and sentenced by a Magistrates’ Court.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, noted that Sani’s guilty plea had saved the court valuable time.

He added that the punishment would have been more severe if the convict had not admitted to the crime and had been a first-time offender.

However, he warned him to desist from crime and added that the court would not be lenient with him next time.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the convict had broken into Jamilu Garba’s shop and stolen two ceiling fans worth N149,800.

Leo said that the convict was arrested by a security guard while coming out of the shop with the stolen items.

He said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
