Abeokuta: The Ogun command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has urged public support in the fight against drug trafficking and illicit substance use.

This is in commemoration of the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Ogun NDLEA Commander, Mr Tijani Rabe, reiterated this call on Thursday in Abeokuta during a stakeholders’ meeting commemorating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Rabe stressed the importance of collective effort in confronting drug abuse, highlighting the 2025 theme, ‘The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention.’

He assured that the agency would intensify efforts to eradicate drug use across the state, particularly in underdeveloped communities.

He added that education and public awareness play crucial roles in the fight against drug abuse and should never be underestimated.

Rabe called on parents, youth leaders, educators, faith-based organisations, and the media to partner with NDLEA in building a drug-free nation.

He also appealed for greater investments in prevention strategies, community-based outreach, and multisectoral partnerships to effectively address drug-related challenges.

On the command’s progress since the 2024 World Drug Day, Rabe said notable achievements had been recorded in enforcement activities.

He stated that 847 persons had been arrested for drug offences, and 209 individuals had been successfully prosecuted.

A football match among security and paramilitary agencies uniquely marked the 2025 Day.

The wife of the Ogun Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, who Mrs Yinka Elemide represented, praised the initiative at the match’s grand finale.

She stated that the commemorative football match would enhance inter-agency collaboration in combating drug trafficking and related crimes.

Abiodun expressed optimism that security agencies in Ogun would grow even more united after the event.

She commended Rabe, saying, “This administration will never forget your unwavering efforts to rid Ogun of illicit drugs.”

NAN reports that the Ogun NDLEA football team defeated the NYSC Ogun football team 4–2 in the final game.
