Democracy Wins: Adeyanju Applauds Aiyedatiwa’s Supreme Court Triumph

by Kehinde Adegoke

In a landmark ruling on September 17, 2025, the Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld the electoral mandate of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, bringing a decisive end to months of legal wrangling and political uncertainty in Ondo State.

The judgment, widely hailed as a triumph for democratic integrity, reaffirmed the governor’s legitimacy and galvanised his support base ahead of key governance milestones.

Among the first to publicly celebrate the verdict was Engr. Michael Abayomi Adeyanju, Director-General of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN)—a grassroots political movement known for its advocacy of transparent governance and civic empowerment.

In his statement, Adeyanju described the ruling as “a victory for democracy, justice, and the will of the good people of Ondo State.”

“This triumph is not merely personal,” he emphasised. “It is a vindication of truth and fairness. It sends a clear message that the democratic process remains resilient, even in the face of distractions and political turbulence.”

Ambitious infrastructural projects and a commitment to inclusive development have marked Governor Aiyedatiwa’s tenure.

Though legal challenges had cast a shadow over his administration, the Supreme Court’s ruling now serves as a judicial seal of legitimacy.

Consequently, political observers anticipate a renewed focus on governance and policy delivery.

Adeyanju expressed confidence that the governor would “continue to prioritise good governance, infrastructural development, and prosperity for all,” now unencumbered by legal distractions. The Imole Progressive Network pledged continued collaboration in driving civic engagement and policy accountability.

Analysts suggest the ruling could consolidate Aiyedatiwa’s influence within the ruling party and embolden his reformist agenda. It also serves as a cautionary tale for opposition forces, underscoring the judiciary’s role as a stabilising force in Nigeria’s democratic architecture.

As the dust settles, the focus shifts to healing political divisions and accelerating development. For the people of Ondo State—and as echoed by Adeyanju, a grassroots politician, philanthropist, and engineer of international repute—the verdict is more than a legal resolution. It is a “call to unity, progress, and democratic resilience.”
