Nigeria at 65: APC Chieftain Urges Support for Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Enugu (Nigeria): A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hyacinth Ngwu, has called on Nigerians to support the ongoing economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ngwu, a former South-East Publicity Secretary of the APC, advised in a message issued to reporters on Monday in Enugu to mark the 65th anniversary of independence.

He said that Nigerians have every reason to celebrate the 65th independence anniversary, as once adverse conditions are turning around for the better”.

According to him, as we prepare to celebrate 65 years of Independence, Nigerians should support the ongoing rejigging of our economy, which has positioned the economy on a more sustainable growth trajectory.

“For the first time at 4.2 per cent, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is growing above the population growth.

“This growth, if supported and encouraged, would result in a significant drop in our poverty incidence.

“We are beginning to see significant improvements in the industrial production index, which stood at 196.13 as of 2024 and the purchasing manager’s index, which was 51.4 points.

“These are indications of expansion in economic activities in the industrial sector,” he said.

The APC chieftain hailed President Tinubu’s strides in the consecutive decline in the country’s food inflation rate.

Ngwu said that the consecutive decline in the food inflation rate remained a clear testament and an indication of improvements in family welfare in the country.

“The establishment of education loan funds for students is easing the financial burden on parents and guardians.

“The financial autonomy for the local governments and increase in Federal funds allocation to them and states have caused significant improvements in sub-national infrastructures and developments.

“The creation of additional zonal or regional development commissions has also deepened democracy and even development across zones,” he added.
