Police Arrest 2 Suspected Cultists, Recover Weapons in A’Ibom

Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria:  The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered dangerous weapons from them in Iyah Street in Uyo.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters on Monday in Uyo.

“The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has announced the successful arrest of two suspected cult members and the recovery of dangerous weapons and items linked to organised criminal activities,” John said.

She stated that the command’s operatives had arrested the suspects based on a tip-off received at approximately 01:00 hours on Tuesday.

John stated that a subsequent search conducted upon their arrest yielded recovery of the following items: one jack knife, one walkie-talkie radio, Gunpowder, and one “bullet-proof” charm (fetish substance).

Other items include two face caps bearing the insignia of the Black Axe Confraternity (a cult group), two machetes, and a police lanyard.

The spokesperson said that the suspects were currently undergoing investigation to determine the full scope of their activities and potential links to other crimes.

She assured the public of the police’s commitment to rooting out cultism and other forms of violent crime in the state.

She urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
