Lokoja: Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, have been arrested in connection with the death of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Solomon.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Salisu Usman, disclosed this on Saturday during a condolence visit to the bereaved family in Lokoja.
Usman said the suspects were apprehended by the university’s internal security team within two hours of the incident and subsequently handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution.
He assured that the institution was working closely with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and to identify all those involved, directly or indirectly, in the incident.
Describing the death as tragic and unacceptable, the Vice Chancellor said it had thrown the university community into mourning.
He reaffirmed the institution’s zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, violence, criminality, and other anti-social behaviours that threaten lives on campus.
Usman also disclosed that the university had intensified surveillance and strengthened existing security measures within and around the campus to prevent a recurrence.
He added that additional security reforms would be introduced in the coming days to further enhance campus safety.
The Vice Chancellor assured parents, guardians, and members of the public of the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for learning, teaching, and research.
He commended Governor Ahmed Ododo, traditional rulers, and security agencies for their support in maintaining peace within the university community.
Responding, the father of the deceased, Mr Solomon Idachaba, appreciated the university management for the condolence visit and the swift arrest of the suspects.
He also expressed hope that justice would be served.
