Abuja: Maj.-Gen. Saidu Audu has formally assumed Command of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), taking over leadership of the regional security coalition tasked with combating terrorism and cross‑border threats in the Lake Chad Basin, succeeding the erstwhile Commander, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, at the Headquarters in N’djamena, Chad.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF, Lt.-Col. Iweha Ikedichi, made available to reporters.
In his remarks, General Audu thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him, pledged to consolidate on the gains recorded by his predecessor.
He charged troops to remain disciplined, focused, and innovative in the conduct of operations.
He also emphasised the importance of enhanced collaboration with local communities and security stakeholders to achieve lasting peace in the Lake Chad region.
The outgoing Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Mutkut appreciated the Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, as well as partner nations and international collaborators, including the African Union and the European Union, for their sustained support of the mission.
He attributed the achievements of the MNJTF to teamwork and professionalism, urging officers and men to extend the same cooperation to his successor as he proceeds to his new appointment as Corps Commander, Infantry in the Nigerian Army.
Highlights of the event included the signing of handover notes, the presentation of the command flag, and a group photograph.
