Tinubu Vows to Secure Nigeria, Protect Citizens

by Toye Faleye

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to secure Nigeria and protect its citizens under his watch.

He issued this statement on his verified X handle on Sunday, following the growing spate of insecurity in the country.

Explaining his efforts to quell the resurgence of insecurity in the country, the President reminded citizens that he had to cancel his trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to coordinate security efforts at home.

He recognised the efforts of the security forces over the last few days when terrorists went berserk, killing, abducting, and sacking people from their ancestral homes in Kwara, Kebbi and Niger states.

“I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline. Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” said the embattled President.

However, a moment of respite came the way of the country, as President Tinubu disclosed that all the 38 worshippers abducted from Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued. At the same time, 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered.

Last week, tension heightened over the growing spate of insecurity in the country when Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger States came under the terrorists’ siege.

Early in the morning on Nov. 17, terrorists abducted 25 female students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State, killing the Vice Principal during the attack.

While in Eruku, which occurred on Nov. 19 at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State, terrorists stormed the church, killing at least two to three worshippers and abducting dozens, including the Pastor.

In what appeared to be Nigeria’s largest school abductions in recent years, terrorists abducted 303 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger State, on Nov. 21.

Around 50 students managed to escape captivity within days of the attack.
