Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, on Saturday commended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for their steadfast support of President Bola Tinubu “against all odds.”
Wike, speaking during a visit to the Assembly quarters in Port Harcourt, said the lawmakers had demonstrated courage and loyalty by upholding democratic principles despite political pressures. He described their stance as proof of their capacity to lead and as a beacon of trust in governance.
The minister faulted the Rivers State Government for withholding legislators’ entitlements prior to the declaration of a state of emergency, calling the move unfair and undemocratic. He praised the Assembly members for remaining united and for presenting him with a car gift, which he said symbolized their solidarity.
“This is the first time I have seen legislators telling the world what they stand for and standing firm, showing that we are a different arm of government and not a department of government,” Wike said. He urged them to continue to “stand for what is right” and to work together to develop the state.
