APC Lagos: Nigeria Steady, Not in Peril

by Kehinde Adegoke

Lagos: The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected suggestions of national decline, insisting Nigeria retains firm leadership and a clear sense of direction.

The party was reacting to comments attributed to former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who said Nigeria was bleeding and needed urgent salvation.

In a statement, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said the remarks ignored broader national realities and overstated current challenges facing the country.

He described the comments as “misplaced moral outrage,” arguing they came from leaders who previously held office without delivering comparable national transformation.

“At moments like this, statesmanship requires introspection and restitution, not grandstanding,” Oladejo said, noting Nigerians recalled Tambuwal’s years in strategic positions.

He said Tambuwal’s recent 60th birthday should have encouraged sober reflection rather than public moral posturing.

“It was an opportunity to seek forgiveness and offer an honest account of stewardship, but sainthood claims ring hollow amid unresolved controversies,” Oladejo said.

The APC spokesman said Nigeria’s difficulties were cumulative and could not be attributed solely to the present administration.

“Many now warning of peril were active participants, sometimes architects, of policies that entrenched stagnation and economic drift,” he added.

Oladejo said the country was undergoing necessary reforms under the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the reforms aimed to stabilise the economy, strengthen security and rebuild institutional credibility.

According to him, the measures required patience, sincerity and shared responsibility from leaders and citizens alike.

He urged public figures to support constructive reforms, saying, “National progress is better served by sincerity and accountability than apocalyptic political rhetoric.”
