Lagos: The Airport Police Command has arrested a LAMATA bus driver accused of a fatal hit‑and‑run that claimed the life of a 19‑year‑old pedestrian at Airport Bus Stop, Ikeja.

Police spokesperson ASP Mohammed Adeola confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, noting that the incident occurred on Friday and involved an Ashok Leyland bus with registration number MUS‑139‑YL.

Preliminary investigations revealed the bus struck the victim shortly after she alighted and was heading toward the airport. Eyewitnesses rushed her to the Air Force Base Hospital, where medical personnel declared her dead on arrival due to severe injuries.

Adeola said operatives immediately launched a manhunt after the driver fled the scene. Working with LAMATA officials, the suspect was traced, identified, and handed over to the Domestic Police Division. He is now in custody, has given a statement, and investigations continue.
