Police Confirm Patrol Attack, Inspector Killed at Oyo Border

Ibadan: Oyo State Police have confirmed that gunmen attacked a patrol team at Budo Masalasi Border Post, killing an Inspector.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday, the day after the attack.

According to reports, about 10 to 15 gunmen attacked ASP Entonu Shaibu and his patrol team during the incident on Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m., resulting in the death of Insp Aliu Oluwole.

The attackers also seized his AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition, bearing breach number 4516.

“Yes, gunmen attacked Police operatives, and an Inspector, while courageously repelling the attack, paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” Olayinka said.

He said that, following the attack, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate manhunt and a comprehensive investigation.

According to him, preliminary findings indicate that some of the attackers sustained bullet injuries, and operatives are currently on their trail.

Olayinka reassured members of the public that the command had put in place adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property in the state.

He urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and report anyone with suspicious gunshot injuries.

Report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds under suspicious circumstances to the police or other security agencies.

The command remains determined to arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
