Abuja: First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has underscored Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening women’s resilience across Africa, stressing the nation’s resolve to empower women as pillars of stability, progress, and development.
Mrs Kwapchi Bata-Hamman, Special Assistant to the President (Media and ICT) in the Office of the Vice President, signed the statement on Saturday in Abuja.
The statement reiterated the commitment at the 30th General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OFLAD).
The Assembly opened on Feb. 11, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and coincided with the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union.
According to the statement, Mrs Tinubu was represented at the event by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima.
It added that the First Lady reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for collaborative, gender-responsive strategies to enhance resilience and promote sustainable futures for women and girls.
The statement explained that technical meetings reviewed internal matters and advanced OFLAD’s strategic priorities, particularly in gender equality, climate action, and conflict response.
It further said outcomes of the technical sessions were deliberated upon during a closed meeting on Feb. 14, with recommendations prepared for adoption.
The Assembly’s open session is scheduled for Feb. 15, with the theme: “Building Resilience for Women and Girls: Climate, Conflict, and Sustainable Futures.”
OFLAD President, Mrs Fatima Maada-Bio, described the Assembly as a significant platform for experience-sharing and capacity-building for African First Ladies, thereby strengthening their collective impact on women’s issues across the continent.
