Donald Trump showed interest after a Daily Mail report said he shares royal ancestry with King Charles III.
Genealogists found their link through the 3rd Earl of Lennox, who was King James II of Scotland’s great-grandson. This makes Trump and King Charles 15th cousins.
On Truth Social, Trump exclaimed: “Wow, that’s nice. I’ve always wanted to live in Buckingham Palace!!! I’ll talk to the King and Queen about this in a few minutes!!”
The news came as King Charles and Queen Camilla began a four-day state visit to the United States. Trump is hosting them to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The King addressed the Congress on Tuesday, the first British monarch to do this in 35 years.
The visit comes at a time of tension between the U.S. and UK. Trump has criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not sending military support in the Iran war, calling him “not Winston Churchill” and describing NATO allies as “cowards” for staying out of the conflict.
Even with the political tensions, the royal couple got a formal welcome at the White House. Trump and Melania greeted them; Charles gave Melania a cheek kiss, and Camilla shook hands with Trump.
The President showed them landmarks, like a tree probably planted by Queen Elizabeth in 1991, before leading everyone inside for tea in the Green Room. Later, they toured the grounds and saw beehives and ongoing ballroom construction.
The visit will end with a state dinner in the East Room for Trump’s family, congressional leaders, and cabinet officials. Security was tightened after a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Buckingham Palace released a statement saying they were relieved the President and guests were safe.
The King and Queen are staying at Blair House, the historic guest residence next to the White House. Their visit mixes ceremony, diplomacy, and a nod to their shared family history.
