Joy Turns to Tragedy as Mother Passes Away Hours after Delivering Quintuplets

by Toye Faleye

Mary Yaduyan waited 14 years to become a mother, but her much-anticipated joy ended in tragedy when she died just hours after delivering quintuplet sons.

After conceiving through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), Mary delivered her babies by caesarean section.

Though both she and her children were initially stable, her health declined rapidly within four hours.

Doctors tried everything to save her, but she did not survive. Staff and family at the hospital, known for handling high-risk births, were left mourning her sudden loss.

Yaduyan attended regular antenatal appointments during her pregnancy and had no major issues until her membranes ruptured early at 31 weeks.

Doctors did their best to keep her pregnancy going. Her consultant, deeply saddened by her death, said the pregnancy had gone smoothly and described her as a valued patient.

After the birth, Yaduyan seemed stable—her blood pressure and oxygen levels were normal, and there was no heavy bleeding. Later, she complained of chest pain.

A cardiologist checked her, but there were no obvious warning signs. Despite close monitoring, her condition worsened suddenly, and she died within hours.

In another heartbreaking case, police officer Louis Aoko Ogony, 36, died giving birth at Nakuru Specialist Hospital

A post-mortem later revealed the cause, deepening her family’s sorrow. Her husband recalled their struggles, including losing two sons in 2024, and the strength they tried to hold onto before this latest tragedy.
