Katsina: The Society for Family Health (SFH) has inaugurated a campaign to encourage healthy child spacing across the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Katsina State.
The SFH programme Officer in the state, Folashade Olumeyan, disclosed this at a 1-day stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina on Wednesday.
According to her, the project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the state government, is part of the Delivering Innovation in Self-Care 2.0 (DISC 2.0) initiative.
Olumeyan explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was designed to engage people from various communities and ensure the project’s success.
She disclosed that the project commenced in September 2024, adding that the SFH was pleased that, about healthy child spacing in the state, the project had significantly improved the landscape.
“Surprisingly, we have enjoyed a very high level of acceptance. What we’re doing now is building momentum and seeking to reach areas that are traditionally difficult to access, particularly rural regions.
“That’s why community orientation is important for us. We need residents to be aware of this, so we need to go to those far areas to enable those there access to this healthcare service,” Olumeyan said.
She added that the project’s objectives were to increase family planning access and equity, promote adherence to take-home units, ensure informed choice, and demonstrate health system strengthening.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Katsina LGA, Alhaji Isah Miqdad, expressed gratitude for the project and assured the Council of its support towards its success.
Represented by the Council’s Secretary, Malam Abdulkarim Modibbo, the Chairman stated that the Council had focused more on the health sector since his appointment.
Stakeholders, particularly those from traditional institutions and the health sector, have promised to provide adequate support for the project.
