Osogbo:  The Group Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, on Thursday declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 8, 2026, for the governorship election in the state.

Ogunbiyi was the Accord Party governorship candidate in 2022 after he lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to Gov. Ademola Adeleke.

Ogunbiyi, who addressed reporters after declaring his intention at the APC Party Secretariat in Osogbo, however, said he would support whoever the party picked as its governorship candidate.

According to him, all the party’s governorship aspirants have agreed to rally around the candidate who emerges victorious.

“My chances of picking the party ticket are bright, because I have overwhelming support from party members across the state.

“I stand as a unifying factor for all the aspirants and APC in Osun.

“By God’s grace, I have my people across the state and local governments here today to show solidarity with me. I also enjoy a lot of goodwill.

“This is proof that the people are with me, and my chances of picking the party ticket are very high. I am not worried about the governor joining the APC.

“I also appreciate President Bola Tinubu for the good work he is doing to reposition the economy.

“Based on the president’s good performance, he will win the 2027 election, and APC will wrest power from PDP in 2026 in the state,” he said.

Earlier, APC Secretary in the state, Alhaji Kamaroudeen Alao, said that Ogunbiyi had met with the party executives and agreed to support whoever the party presented as its candidate.

“All the aspirants are one and working for the same goal, so their supporters should work for the success of the party at the 2026 election,” he said.
