Abuja: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) opened its governorship screening exercise with a dramatic show of interest, vetting more than 70 aspirants on the very first day. The unprecedented turnout underscores both the party’s growing appeal and the fierce competition expected ahead of its primaries.
This was disclosed by Mrs Queen Okiyi, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
Okiyi said the exercise proceeded smoothly, with two screening panels each handling 35 aspirants.
She stated that more than 100 aspirants from relevant states are participating in the process.
She explained that the screening, which started on Monday, will continue on Tuesday as the party processes more aspirants.
She emphasised that the screening demonstrates the party’s commitment to due process and credible candidate selection.
Okiyi noted, “The screening concluded for today and will resume tomorrow.”
ADC has scheduled a screening of presidential aspirants for Wednesday, May 20. Meanwhile, the screening of affected National Assembly aspirants from parts of Northern Nigeria will now be held in Abuja due to security concerns.
