Threatens Legal Action
The Accord Party, led by Chris Imumolen, says the organisers of the Ibadan opposition coalition used its name and logo without permission.
In a statement released Sunday in Abuja by the factional National Secretary, Muktar Abdallah, Imumolen made it clear that Accord is not part of the alliance and remains focused on fielding its own presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Reports from the Ibadan meeting said the coalition agreed to support one candidate against the ruling APC in 2027.
Those involved reportedly include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 candidate Peter Obi, Governor Seyi Makinde, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Senator David Mark, and former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola.
It was noted that the Accord Party was not associated with the bloc, noting that the inclusion of Accord’s flag and identity was inaccurate.
He issued a 48‑hour request for the conveners to publicly clarify that the use of Accord’s symbols or legal action may be cons. “This is not a misunderstanding.
The Accord Party requests an explanation for the use of its identity. If unanswered, legal steps may be taken,” he said, adding that a breach-of-contract claim could be filed if the request is ignored. ignored.
The Accord leader said the party has never allowed its name, logo, or platform to be used in any coalition with the PDP, ADC, or other groups. He said this situation brings up doubts about the alliance’s credibility and transparency if it uses the names of parties that were not involved.
“Accord Party is still focused on the 2027 general elections. It plans to present its own presidential candidate, not just be a minor part of a quickly formed coalition,” Imumolen said.
He said Accord will continue to protect its identity, structure, and independence, and warned against any unauthorised use of its platform for political purposes.
“As 2027 nears, Accord will reach Nigerians directly, not via imposed coalitions,” he concluded.
