Malnutrition Fight: Gombe Allocates ₦500m for Therapeutic Food Procurement

by TheDiggerNews

Gombe: Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved N500 million in matching funds for procuring Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food in partnership with UNICEF, strengthening the state’s response to severe acute malnutrition.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Ismaila Uba-Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Gombe.

Uba-Misilli said the intervention through the Child Nutrition Fund would expand access to treatment for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition across communities in Gombe.

He noted that Gombe remained among the few states consistently meeting nutrition counterpart funding obligations, adding that the latest contribution reinforced the administration’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children, especially those under 5 years old.

Uba-Misilli said consistent funding had supported steady improvements in child survival and health outcomes, reflecting the state government’s resolve to invest in programmes that strengthened nutrition services and reduced preventable childhood illnesses.

He emphasised that sustained investment in therapeutic food aligned with the governor’s strategy to reduce child mortality, enhanced early development and ensured no child suffered from treatable malnutrition due to limited access to essential interventions.

Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food is widely used in community-based management of severe acute malnutrition, enabling children to recover safely, including those living in remote areas with limited access to health facilities.
